What is Hypnosis?

Your mind has two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious mind is the one that is logical and analytical and accounts for only 10% of your mind. The other 90% of your mind is the subconscious which is creative, intuitive, irrational, and emotional.

Just like a computer stores information, the subconscious is where all the experiences you have had during your lifetime are stored. Also just like a computer, the subconscious mind can be reprogrammed. Hypnosis is accessing the subconscious mind and giving it suggestions to reprogram it to achieve the results you desire.

This reprogramming occurs when the alpha or theta brainwave frequencies are accessed. The alpha state is the brainwave frequency when you are daydreaming or are concentrating so intently on something that you don’t notice anything else around you. The theta state is deeper and is what you go through as you go to sleep and again as you awaken. You naturally go through these brainwave frequencies many times each day.

What Can Hypnosis Be Used For?

  • Stress Management

  • Pain Management

  • Weight Loss

  • Smoking Cessation

  • Improving Athletic Performance

  • Managing Anxiety

  • Eliminating Fears & Phobias

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

  • Improving Relationships

  • Improving Your Health

  • And many other concerns

What is a Hypnosis Session Like?

Before the hypnosis session starts we will have determined what it is you want to achieve and how hypnosis can help.

Your brain wave frequency varies during the day depending on whether you are wide awake, daydreaming, very relaxed, or sleeping. Your brain waves will fluctuate between the daydreaming and deep relaxation frequencies during the hypnosis part of the session.  This is what is called a trance.

You may have seen movies where a hypnotist tells the client to “sleep”. In fact, you are not asleep, just a deeply relaxed body and a very focused mind.

Once the session is completed you’ll be brought out of the trance and you will feel relaxed and refreshed, just like you had a nice nap.

Hypnosis Myths

1. I can’t be hypnotized.

Just about everyone can be hypnotized. It is important that the client wants to be hypnotized. Those who are very logical and analytical may take a little longer to go into trance but there are many techniques a hypnotist can use to help the client achieve the trance state.

2. The hypnotist can make me do things I don’t want to do.

During all hypnosis sessions, even though the conscious mind is very relaxed, your subconscious mind is always working. Your subconscious mind is there to protect you. The subconscious will not let someone do something when they are in a trance that they would not normally do when they were awake. When there is a conflict, the subconscious mind causes the consciouis mind to take over and the client immediately wakes up.

3. Hypnosis is like sleeping.

When someone is in a trance it may look like they are sleeping, however, their mind is very active as they listen to the suggestions that are made by the hypnotist.

4. I might not wake up if I am hypnotized.

Sometimes the scene the client is imagining is so pleasurable that the mind wants to remain there for awhile. That’s perfectly okay. When you are ready, your mind will come back to full consciousness on its own.
